Sharjah: The Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority (SEWA) announced the completion of maintenance works on 182 groundwater wells during the third quarter of 2025. This initiative underscores SEWA’s commitment to ensuring groundwater sustainability and providing efficient water resources for future generations.
According to Emirates News Agency, Engineer Abdulrahman Boukhalaf, Director of the Water and Desalination Plants Department, confirmed that SEWA is implementing a comprehensive plan to continuously assess water resources and identify opportunities for sustainable development. SEWA applies scientifically grounded strategies to ensure the optimal use of water resources, aligning with global best practices.
Boukhalaf emphasized that SEWA is actively working to curb the proliferation of unregulated wells, which contribute to groundwater depletion. This effort is executed through extensive inspection campaigns in cooperation with relevant authorities, ensuring compliance with environmental and health standards.
He elaborated that well-drilling permits are issued based on strict technical and scientific criteria under the supervision of competent authorities. This is to safeguard water reserves and natural wealth, with SEWA relying on geological studies and the latest water conservation methods.
