Sharjah Ruler Engages with Directors of Arab Poetry Houses


Sharjah: His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, received the directors of Houses of Poetry from across the Arab world at the Dr Sultan Al Qasimi Centre on Tuesday morning. The meeting brought together representatives from Al Mafraq (Jordan), Nouakchott (Mauritania), Luxor (Egypt), Kairouan (Tunisia), Tetouan and Marrakesh (Morocco), and Khartoum (Sudan).



According to Emirates News Agency, Sheikh Sultan praised the directors for their contributions to enriching cultural life throughout the Arab world. He underscored the significance of literature and poetry in refining poetic taste, fostering fair competition, and encouraging young poets. Additionally, he emphasized the importance of publishing their work and introducing them to broader cultural circles.



The Ruler of Sharjah highlighted the necessity for greater media focus on the activities of these Houses of Poetry. By intensifying media and television coverage of their events, Sheikh Sultan believes it will broaden their reach among audiences and listeners, enhance the overall experience, support individual poets, and encourage further literary and creative production.



During the meeting, the directors provided detailed overviews of their achievements since the establishment of their Houses of Poetry, noting the significant services offered to poets and poetry audiences. They highlighted the emergence of new generations of young poets, whose participation and visibility have been actively encouraged.



The directors expressed profound gratitude to Sheikh Sultan for his steadfast support of Arabic poetry. They acknowledged his personal involvement in House of Poetry activities, which has been pivotal in strengthening and entrenching this cultural experience in the cities hosting these institutions.
