Sharjah: His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, inaugurated the Fili Heritage Souq on Sunday morning, spanning an area of 2,065 square metres. The souq is a significant addition to the developmental and enhancement projects of ‘Fili Heritage’ in the region.
According to Emirates News Agency, H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan delivered a speech on the occasion, congratulating the opening of numerous projects in the area that contribute to its development. He highlighted that the progress in the region follows a specific plan that preserves values and heritage, supports all segments of society, and provides necessary services for the people of the region.
The Ruler of Sharjah emphasised that development in Sharjah is guided by a methodology prioritising human development and moral reform. This approach supports social, cultural, and economic growth, ensuring a dignified life while maintaining customs and heritage. He mentioned his close oversight of the Sharjah Human Care programme, which supports individuals from birth through all life stages.
H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan also outlined ongoing projects in the region, such as the Al Madam Hospital and Al Modina Lake project, which aim to provide medical services and emergency reserves. Additionally, efforts to restore several Al Madam forts will help preserve the region’s history.
During the inauguration, H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan toured the market, examining the variety of shops and facilities. The market features 13 shops and 5 kiosks offering handicrafts and local products, including incense, perfumes, camping equipment, and souvenirs. It provides an interactive pottery workshop and a coffee house demonstrating traditional coffee preparation.
The architectural design of Fili Heritage Market reflects the local environment, using materials such as palm frond dwellings and a mixture of clay and stone. The market includes multiple entrances and ample parking spaces, enhancing its cultural and tourist appeal.
Accompanying the Ruler of Sharjah during the inauguration were Sheikh Majid bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Sheikh Dr Khalid bin Humaid bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Sheikh Hamad bin Hamdan Al Nahyan, Abdulrahman Mohammed Al Owais, and other officials and dignitaries.
