Sharjah Ruler Inaugurates Second Conference on AI and Arabic Language


Sharjah: His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, attended the opening of the Second Sharjah International Conference on the Arabic Language, focusing on ‘Artificial Intelligence in the Service of the Arabic Language: Creativity, Education, and Research,’ held at the University of Sharjah.



According to Emirates News Agency, the event was attended by H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and President of the University of Sharjah. The ceremony, which took place at Al Razi Hall in the Medical Colleges Complex, began with the UAE national anthem and a Quran recitation. Professor Dr. Issam Al Din Ibrahim Ajami, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, expressed gratitude to the Ruler for his support of education and the Arabic language. Ajami highlighted the university’s role as a platform for knowledge and a hub for the Arabic language.



Dr. Mohammed Ahmed Al Qudah, Dean of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Jordan, emphasized the significance of digital applications and AI in preserving the Arabic language. He spoke on the potential of these technologies to make Arab heritage accessible and transform it into modern educational and research tools.



The attendees viewed a presentation on the Sharjah International Award for Best AI Application in Service of the Arabic Language. The presentation detailed the award’s objectives, criteria, and notable applications. The Ruler of Sharjah also launched the Smart Researcher Project within the Historical Dictionary of the Arabic Language, showcasing its features and benefits.



Dr. Maryam Saeed Balajeed, head of the conference’s scientific committees, discussed the importance of supporting the Arabic language through AI and the university’s role in this endeavor. She noted that the conference covers six scientific themes, with participation from 30 countries.



The Ruler of Sharjah honored the winners of the Sharjah International Award for Best AI Application in Service of the Arabic Language, with the ‘Arabic Grammar’ project taking first place. The event concluded with the recognition of sponsors and partners.



The ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including Sheikh Dr. Salem bin Abdulrahman Al Qasimi and Mohammed Obaid Al Zaabi, among others interested in the Arabic language.
