Sharjah: His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, inaugurated the new headquarters of the Theatrical Association in the Al Taawun area of Sharjah. The official opening was marked by the unveiling of a commemorative plaque in the presence of association members, including artists, actors, and directors.
According to Emirates News Agency, the Sharjah Ruler congratulated the theatre community on the new facility, highlighting his lifelong connection with theatre. He underscored the significance of theatre as a tool for social communication and community engagement. The Ruler engaged in conversations with theatre professionals, emphasizing the role of theatre in raising societal awareness through direct performance and expression.
The discussions also covered the importance of theatrical writing in creating works that are both constructive and socially impactful. The Ruler of Sharjah highlighted the necessity for collaboration among artists, writers, and directors, stressing that theatre is a collective art form that thrives on teamwork. He encouraged playwrights to grant directors creative freedom to present their own visions, aiming to ensure authenticity in their portrayal of societal issues.
His Highness offered advice to theatre professionals, urging continuous learning, reading, and academic growth. He emphasized the importance of mentoring young talent and providing opportunities for newcomers to develop their skills and gain experience. The Ruler’s support extends to fostering opportunities for these emerging artists to showcase their abilities and learn from veterans in the field.
The Board of Trustees and members of the Theatrical Association expressed gratitude to the Ruler of Sharjah for his unwavering support and for providing a state-of-the-art headquarters. The facility includes offices, meeting rooms, and amenities designed to facilitate regular gatherings and events for theatre professionals.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Owais, Chairman of the Department of Culture; Mohammed Obaid Al Zaabi, Head of the Protocol and Hospitality Department; Ismail Abdullah, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Theatrical Association; Ahmed Al Jasmi, Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees; and a large number of artists and officials.
