Trkiye Sets Ambitious $70 Billion Tourism Revenue Target for 2027

Ankara:Trkiye is aiming to become the world's sixth-highest-earning country in tourism revenue by 2027 with a new budget allocation of $244.5 million under the central government budget draft. This marks an increase from the $188.4 million allocated this year.

According to Wam, the funding aligns with Ankara's Medium-Term Programme (MTP) and its tourism revenue targets of $70 billion in 2027, $73.5 billion in 2028, and $78.5 billion in 2029. Last year, Trkiye generated a record $65.2 billion in tourism revenue. However, the initial 2026 revenue target of $68 billion was revised downward to $65 billion due to ongoing conflicts between Russia and Ukraine, as well as in the Middle East.

Trkiye is expected to improve its position in global tourism revenue rankings, moving from a projected seventh place this year to sixth in 2027. The aim is to achieve a $70 billion revenue target next year, which could elevate the country to fifth place by 2028. Since 2017, Trkiye has risen from 15th to seventh place in global tourism revenue, and from eighth to fourth place in total tourist arrivals.

The country plans to maintain its fourth-place ranking in total tourist arrivals from 2027 to 2029. Additionally, Trkiye seeks to improve its standing in the World Economic Forum's Travel and Tourism Development Index, aiming to move up to 35th place from a projected 36th place last year, with further ambitions for 34th place in 2028 and 33rd by 2029.
