UAE and New Zealand Explore Strategies for Enhanced Parliamentary Cooperation


Abu dhabi: Saeed Rashid Al Abdi, Chairman of the Finance, Economy and Industry Committee at the Federal National Council (FNC), held a meeting with Tim van de Molen, Chair of Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade Committee of the New Zealand Parliament, at the FNC headquarters in Abu Dhabi. The meeting was attended by Tariq Ahmed Al Marzouqi, Assistant Secretary-General for Council Presidency Affairs of the FNC.



According to Emirates News Agency, both sides emphasized the strong relations between the UAE and New Zealand, noting the evolution of their ties into a strategic partnership in various sectors, particularly political and economic. The discussions were centered on enhancing parliamentary cooperation between the two nations, aligning with their bilateral relations by exchanging expertise and parliamentary practices, and coordinating in international parliamentary forums on issues of shared interest.



The meeting also explored ways to strengthen parliamentary cooperation in the legislative sphere, especially concerning economic policies and laws that support sustainable investment. Both parties highlighted the importance of flexible economic legislation to adapt to growth trends and enhance partnership opportunities in vital sectors, aiming for prosperity for both nations and their peoples.



Additionally, the discussion included opportunities for expanding economic collaboration, especially following the signing of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) and the Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement. These agreements aim to boost sustainable investment opportunities in agriculture, services, technology, and renewable energy, providing legal safeguards for investors and reinforcing mutual confidence.



The comprehensive agreement between the two countries aims to elevate bilateral trade to over US$5 billion by 2032, as underscored by both sides during the meeting.
