Nagoya:UAE athlete Mariam Kareem has advanced to the women's 400m hurdles final at the 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026 after leading her heat and the overall qualifying standings with a personal-best time of 55.14 seconds.
According to Emirates News Agency , the UAE's medal tally at the Games was initiated by Sulaiman Abdulrahman, who secured a silver medal in the men's 400m final with a time of 44.99 seconds. Abdulrahman received his silver medal during the athletics program on Sunday, marking the UAE's first medal at the event.
In shooting, Sheikh Mohammed bin Dalmook Al Maktoum finished the first day of men's trap qualification in fifth place, hitting 48 of 50 targets. Yahya Suhail Al Muhairi followed in 26th position with 44 targets. Qualification continues tomorrow.
In dressage, Bianca Schtz and Ali Khalfan Al Jahouri reached a milestone by becoming the first two UAE riders to qualify for the individual freestyle final at a single Asian Games. Schtz finished 12th with a score of 70.930% aboard Le Grand Ayden HB, while Al Jahouri was 13th with 68.945% aboard Lotus-S.
The UAE recurve mixed archery team triumphed over Nepal 6-2 before ending its campaign with a 0-6 loss to India in the round of 16. The men's compound team also exited in the round of 16 after a 215-235 defeat to India. The women's compound team lost to South Korea 225-234, and the compound mixed team narrowly lost to China 150-153. The women's recurve team was defeated 0-6 by Chinese Taipei.
Jumana Al Najjar of the UAE national archery team expressed satisfaction with her performance, achieving a personal best and gaining valuable experience competing against diverse Asian styles. She emphasized the importance of technical execution and maintaining confidence throughout the event.
The UAE fencing team concluded its participation in the men's team ©p©e event with a 36-45 defeat to Hong Kong, China, in the round of 16.
