Bangkok: The United Arab Emirates, represented by the Emirates Association for Occupational and Community Health, is actively participating in the joint conference of the 34th Congress of the Medical, Health and Professional Association (OHSWA) and the 53rd International Conference of the MEDICHEM Organisation. This event is being held in Bangkok from 18 to 20 May and features a significant international presence, including key figures from the World Occupational Health Organisation.
According to Emirates News Agency, Professor Dr. Nahyan Helal, President of the Emirates Society for Occupational and Community Health and a Member of the International Occupational Health Committee (ICOH), is spearheading efforts to garner international support for the UAE's bid to host the 2033 World Congress on Occupational Health (ICOH 2033) in Abu Dhabi at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center (ADNEC).
As part of the Association's strategic initiatives, Dr. Helal announced from Bangkok the launch of the "First International Conference on Occupational Health and Integration of People of Determination," set to take place in Abu Dhabi from 13 to 15 October 2026. This landmark conference aims to develop policies and create work environments that integrate people of determination, adhering to the highest international occupational health and safety standards.
Dr. Helal has been engaged in numerous strategic meetings with the International Commission for Occupational Health (ICOH) Board to bolster support for the UAE's hosting proposal. This initiative highlights the UAE's preparedness to host this significant event, which is the largest global gathering in the occupational health sector since its inception in 1906. Hosting ICOH 2033 would mark the first time a Middle Eastern country hosts the conference, cementing the UAE's status as a global leader in preventive health policy formulation.
In the domain of scientific and research contributions, Dr. Helal presented an innovative research paper titled "From Blockchain Technology to Remote Digital Occupational Health Solutions." The paper introduces a technical model using blockchain to safeguard workers' health in the informal circular economy. This Emirati innovation:
Tracks hazardous chemicals with precision across borders to mitigate risks to workers.
Delivers smart, remote healthcare solutions for recycling sector workers, ensuring prompt medical access.
Offers a comprehensive digital occupational health model that marries technological innovation with economic adaptability.
This international event is anticipated to draw specialists, scientists, organizations, and industry leaders worldwide, enhancing occupational safety standards.
