UAE Proposes Establishment of Gulf Skiing Federation

Vilamoura: The United Arab Emirates has proposed the establishment of a Gulf Skiing Federation during its participation in the annual meetings of the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) in Portugal. The initiative is designed to promote the development of winter sports within the Gulf region.

According to Emirates News Agency, the proposal received considerable support from FIS members who endorsed the initiative. They recognized the potential benefits of fostering skiing across the Gulf countries and expressed their backing for the formation of the federation.

The UAE is actively participating in the meetings, which commenced on May 5 and are set to conclude tomorrow, through a delegation from the UAE Winter Sports Federation. The country has been a full member of FIS since 2021, a status that has allowed them to host the International Ski Championship at Ski Dubai for three consecutive years, featuring participants from over 48 countries.

The FIS meetings also included the second edition of the seminar “Bridging the Gaps: Building Inclusive Sports Leadership Together.” This event focused on biodiversity conservation as an essential component of sustainability in sports. Representatives from 35 national federations attended the seminar, reflecting the UAE’s commitment to supporting skiing sports on both a regional and global scale.
