10th ‘My Health’ Conference in Sharjah Focuses on Enhancing Physical and Mental Well-being

SHARJAH: The 10th edition of the 'My Health' Conference, organized by the Health Promotion Department of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs (SCFA), concluded with a strong call for initiatives aimed at boosting physical activity and promoting balanced nutrition, especially among children. The two-day event, which featured insights from over 36 experts in health and nutrition, also emphasized transforming schools into health-promoting environments and implementing stress alleviation programs in workplaces and educational institutions. According to Emirates News Agency, the conference was attended by over 2,170 individuals, including academics, students, and professionals at the University of Sharjah. The discussions were geared towards enhancing community lifestyles and included calls for community institutions to implement health and sports programs aimed at significantly enhancing individual well-being. Iman Rashid Saif, Director of the Health Promotion Department at SCFA, highlighted the importance of addressing critical health issues affecting various segments of society. She noted that the event offered tailored content that reinforced the vision of inclusive and holistic health, with a focus on everyday topics that impact community life and quality of living. The conference underscored the need for community institutions to implement health-focused sports and nutrition programs and advocated for training medical professionals to prescribe physical activity as a preventive and therapeutic measure. Recommendations also included the introduction of health-supportive laws and policies, such as government incentives for healthy food options and a classification system to highlight the health benefits of different foods. Mental health was a pivotal theme, with experts advocating for workplace stress reduction initiatives and stress management training in schools. There was also a call for widespread mental health awareness campaigns to reduce the risks associated with mental illnesses. On the digital front , the conference proposed improvements in healthy food options on delivery apps, including displaying calorie counts and offering filters for healthier choices. Additionally, it called for increased awareness to combat cyberbullying and reduce electronic addiction in educational and workplace settings.
