ABU DHABI: H.H. Sheikha Shamsa bint Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chairman of the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) for Women Affairs, Chairperson of the Higher Committee of the Ataya Initiative, and wife of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in Al Dhafra Region, announced the launch of the 13th edition of the ‘Ataya’ initiative.

The initiative will be accompanied by an exhibition scheduled from 15th to 20th January at the Marina Hall of the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC).

Sheikha Shamsa said the current humanitarian challenges confronting Palestinians in the Gaza Strip require building partnerships to enhance solidarity and meet the needs of those affected.

She added that this direction aligns with Ataya’s global humanitarian message upheld by the UAE’s leadership, making the country one of the leading contributors to international humanitarian and developmental aid.

She made this statement during a speech delivered on her behalf by Rashid Mubarak Al Mansouri,
Deputy Secretary-General of the Local Affairs Sector at the ERC, at a press conference held today at the headquarters of the ERC in Abu Dhabi, announcing the 13th edition of the initiative.

‘In previous years, Ataya has helped find comprehensive solutions for addressing many vital humanitarian issues in various sectors, including health, education, social services and other essential service domains. Key projects have been launched in many countries, benefitting over a million individuals,’ she added.

She then pointed out that this edition is being held under exceptional circumstances, as Palestinians in Gaza are facing various challenges, noting the need to realise this year’s vision to continue the campaign, ‘Tarahum for Gaza”, which aims to provide relief to those affected by the war, reflecting the UAE’s approach towards solidarity and humanitarian cooperation with those in need.

Under this context, this year’s Ataya for Gaza will work with the ‘Tarahum for Gaza’ campaign, dedicating its proceeds to su
pport Palestinians facing dire humanitarian conditions due to the war. This initiative further strengthens the country’s efforts, attracting significant participation from all segments of society.

‘Our ultimate goal is to stand in solidarity with the children, who constitute half of the population in Gaza, by providing for their basic needs, along with healthcare necessities and general hygiene supplies,’ Sheikha Shamsa said in conclusion.
