BUCHAREST: Around 140,000 students from 160 countries across the world have expressed their interest to study in Romania this year, Agerpres, Romanian news agency reported on Tuesday.
They have created 140,000 accounts on the ‘Study in Romania’ online platform to submit applications for scholarships offered by the Romanian government for bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate programmes, the Minister of Education, Ligia Deca, said on Tuesday.
‘The number of foreign students who want to study in Romania is increasing! I am happy not only for the large number of foreign students who want to study in our country, but also for the increase in the number of countries from which candidates come – 160 countries compared to 146 last year,’ Deca wrote on Facebook.
She mentioned that the Romanian government offers 500 scholarships for students from outside the European Union. According to the minister, interested candidates could apply for all fields of study, except medicine, dentistry and pharmacy.
Except the doctora
l students, all others will follow Romanian language as the medium of instruction for their studies, the minister said. This is for the purpose of promoting the Romanian language and culture, Ligia Deca explained.
