Ministry of Tourism on Wednesday launched the third phase of a project to reform tourism sector licensing system, which is being implemented in cooperation with Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply as the national coordinator of the “Investor’s Journey” project. The project aims to improve procedures for launching economic activities, and enhance Jordan’s business environment to become an “attractive and lucrative” investment environment. Speaking at the launching ceremony, the Ministry’s Secretary General, Imad Hijazin, highlighted the importance of the project to reform the sector’s licensing system, which falls under reforms axis in the National Tourism Strategy. Hijazin added that Jordan’s tourism sector is a “vital” industry that supports and stimulates the national economy. The project, he noted, also aims to attract investments, improve business environment, employ workforce, clarify conditions and requirements to ensure compliance and raise control efficiency over economic activities. In addition, he noted the project seeks to reduce costs, restrictions and risks for tourism activities and professions by creating a “better” regulatory environment and reducing administrative burdens on government institutions. Scope of the 3rd phase features development of the start-ups and business conduct system by launching legislative and procedural amendments for tourist economic activities, launching monitoring, inspection, grievances regulations and shifting to digitization, he said. The project comes with the support of ‘Employment-oriented MSME Promotion” project, which is implemented by German Agency for International Cooperation or (GIZ) on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), according to a ministry statement.
