SHARJAH: Sharjah Charity International (SCI) revealed that the total number of well-digging projects implemented by SCI from 2007 until the end of 2023 reached 95,393 diverse wells, with a total cost of AED274.6 million. These projects aim to meet the needs of a large segment of remote areas in many countries suffering from drought and water scarcity throughout the year. The implementation is done in coordination and cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the state’s embassies and consulates, and through the SCI’s offices abroad.

In coinciding with the world’s celebration of Water Day, which falls on 22nd March, SCI emphasised its leading role in supporting impoverished populations, especially in remote areas around the world, in line with its humanitarian vision and charitable goals.

Sheikh Saeed bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Chairman of the SCI Board of Directors, said that after a number of extensive studies and field visits conducted over the past years, the association managed to identify the loca
tions with the most urgent need for charitable projects that serve the poor and deserving individuals.

Additionally, water networks were extended between neighbouring villages, and desalination plants were established to alleviate the daily suffering of the residents due to water scarcity. Previously, they had to undertake long journeys under the scorching sun to reach neighbouring villages and fetch drinking water, which was a difficult and burdensome task. These wells meet the needs of the residents, including people, livestock, and plants, covering vast areas in African and Asian countries, thanks to the support and contributions of benefactors and donors to the well-digging project.
