New York – Syria’s permanent representative to the UN, Bassam Sabbagh, said on Wednesday that the wide participation of Syrians in the presidential election abroad and at Home affirms the Syrian people’s adherence to the independence and unity of their country and their rejection of yielding to any pressure or blackmail.

Sabbagh added that that holding the election process contributes to restoring security and stability to the country and overcoming the impacts of the terrorist war to which Syria has been exposed over the past ten years.

“In the framework of committing to the constitutional entitlement, the Syrian embassies and diplomatic missions witnessed an unprecedented turnout of Syrians residing abroad to cast their votes, and the polling stations in the Syrian provinces also witnessed today the influx of millions to participate in the election process” Sabbagh added during a Security council session via video.

He stressed that holding the constitutional entitlement means preserving Syria’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and political independence.
