Mashqita town in Lattakia countryside… one of the most popular tourist destinations

Lattakia Mashqita town, located nearly 23 km north of Lattakia, has emerged as one of the most popular tourist destinations in the province for its richness in natural factors and its panoramic view on the Mediterranean Sea from one side, and Dam of Tishreen with its seven lakes on the other side amid large areas of forests, woods and agricultural lands.

Kasir Mayassa, the Arabic language teacher and former Cheif of the municipality, told SANA that the name of the town is of Roman origin and it means the “irrigated” land, due to the large number of its springs, pointing out that there are many Roman tombs, clay channels and archaeological castles scattered on the outskirts of the town, which stress that this area has been inhabited since ancient times.

Mayassa added that Mashqita town is characterized by two features, first of which is aesthetic, formed by its integrated natural elements of mountains, forests, lakes and valleys as far as the eye can see, and second is the various tourist services of hotels and restaurants.

In addition to tourism income, the town families depend on the cultivation of olives, citrus and fruit trees, in addition to raising livestock.
