SANA participates in 18th OANA General Assembly in Tehran

Tehran, SANA -The activities of 18th General Assembly of the Organization of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA) kicked off in Tehran on Monday, hosted by the IRNA, with the participation of the Syrian Arab News Agency represented by its general director Eiad Wannous.

60 chief editors representing 35 news agencies OANA members attended the inauguration of the Assembly during which IRNA took over the presidency from South Korean News Agency (Yonhap).

The meeting addressed Corona pandemic, the role of media in dealing with it, prevention and treatment, and ways of enhancing media cooperation after the pandemic.

Iran’s Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Mohammad Mehdi Esmaili addressed the meeting and stressed the importance of cooperation between news agencies, broadcasting accurate information, promoting peace and friendship to counter common media challenges represented in disinformation, media terrorism and monopoly of information.

A number of diplomats representing diplomatic missions in Tehran attended the meeting, including representatives of the Syrian Embassy.
