The Plenary of the House of Representatives on Thursday unanimously approved a resolution against the efforts to ban the Peoples’ Democracy Party (HDP) in Turkey, submitted by left-wing AKEL and the Green Party.

The Parliament denounces anti-democratic methods to ban the HDP in Turkey and call on the Council of Europe to exert the necessary political pressure on the Turkish government and the European Union to take every possible initiative, so that the political strategies against the HDP can be addressed.

Cyprus parliamentarians also call on the international community to react especially in case the Constitutional Court of Turkey decides to ban HDP, depriving it, among other things, of the possibility of participating in the next elections.

The MPs also express solidarity for the struggles of the democratic forces in Turkey for democracy, promotion of the rule of law, human rights and political freedoms.
