Major indices in the US stock market opened mixed on Monday.

The Dow Jones added 281 points, or 0.88%, to 32,151 at 10.12 a.m. EDT. The S&P 500 rose 17 points, or 0.44%, to 3,933.

The tech-heavy Nasdaq, on the other hand, decreased 30 points, or 0.26%, to 11,597.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, fell 1.2% to 25.22, while the 10-year US Treasury yield rose 2% to 3.466%.

The dollar index fell 0.36% to 103.34, while the euro added 0.5% to $1.0718 against the greenback.

Precious metals reversed course and gave up earlier gains, as the price of gold falling 0.9% to $1,971 per ounce and silver trimming 1.1% to $22.35.

Oil prices lost more than 1%, with global benchmark Brent crude at $72.11 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate at $66.04.
