Spanish La Liga club Sevilla announced Tuesday that Jose Luis Mendilibar has been appointed their new head coach.

The 62-year-old Basque coach signed a contract until June 30, it said.

Mendilibar succeeds Argentine manager Jorge Sampaoli, who was officially sacked by the Spanish side Tuesday because of poor results.

Mendilibar, who coached Alaves for a short period in 2022, also took the helm at several Spanish clubs including, Althletic Bilbao, Levante, Osasuna and Real Valladolid.
