CEO of the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) Bassam Sarhan said that preparations to launch the fifth-generation network services in the Kingdom are part of the technological development to enhance various medical, financial, banking, educational services for citizens. According to a TRC statement on Tuesday on the occasion of World Telecommunication and Information Society Day, which focuses this year on “Empowering the least developed countries through information and communication technologies,” Sarhan said most of the least developed countries face great difficulties in providing access to broadband Internet at affordable prices, adding that the digital divide remains one of the most important obstacles facing a safe and prosperous future for humanity. In line with the visions of His Majesty King Abdullah II, the TRC, Sarhan indicated, has provided the necessary frequencies to enable access to the Internet in the Kingdom, underscoring that the commission is committed to attracting foreign investments into the sector.
