BEIRUT: Caretaker Minister of Public Health, Dr. Firas Abiad, assured the Lebanese public on Friday that there is no shortage of medication in the country and that the health situation is under control. He confirmed that no new cholera cases have been reported, apart from a previously announced case, and emphasized the ministry's preparedness to handle any potential outbreak. According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Dr. Abiad shared these updates during a press conference held in Karantina, where he provided detailed information on the current stock of medications available in the country. He noted that medications, especially those for chronic diseases, have a stock level that can sustain the needs of the population for four to five months. The minister also highlighted the ongoing importation efforts, with Middle East Airlines playing a crucial role in prioritizing health needs. Furthermore, addressing public concerns about cancer medication, Dr. Abiad clarified that the number of cancer patients curr ently receiving treatment is around 10,000, which is lower than some reports have suggested. He assured that there are adequate stocks of cancer medications and that distribution efforts are ongoing, particularly focusing on displaced individuals in need. In conclusion, the Health Minister reassured the public of the ministry's high alert status regarding cholera. He mentioned that vaccination efforts are already underway as part of the preventive measures to combat the disease.
