Korea Pursues Smart Agriculture Partnership with UAE: Officials

SEOUL: Officials from the Republic of Korea's agricultural sector have announced intentions to enhance collaboration with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in smart agriculture, with a focus on exporting agricultural products. The initiative aims to leverage the UAE's strategic advantages to bolster the distribution of Korean agricultural goods across the Middle East. According to Emirates News Agency, the announcement was made during a meeting organized by Korea's Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, which included representatives from Emirati and East Asian media outlets. The officials underscored the importance of smart agriculture in achieving sustainable environmental efficiency and expressed optimism that this collaboration could lead to increased crop production, especially in desert regions facing climate challenges. Seung-ho Choi, spokesperson for the Ministry, highlighted the potential benefits of the partnership, emphasizing that both countries could greatly benefit from the data-driven insights provided by smart agriculture technologies. Choi noted the significance of this cooperation in accelerating agricultural productivity. Kim Shinjae, Director of the Korea National Food Cluster Division, stressed the importance of exporting Korean agricultural products to the UAE market, noting the strong demand for Korean goods. This demand has already contributed to a rise in the export of fresh produce and other food products to the UAE. Tae Hoon Kwon, CEO of Sangha-myeon Farm, pointed out that the collaboration with the UAE has facilitated the growth of Korean agricultural exports to international markets, providing opportunities to penetrate various Middle Eastern markets. Kwon added that the increasing regional demand serves as a strong motivation for local farms to boost production. The Republic of Korea and the UAE maintain robust trading relations, with cooperation extending to numerous sectors such as agriculture, energy, climate change, and technology, making them key partners on both reg ional and global scales.
