AMMAN: The 11th International Geological Conference and the 10th Middle East Geology Conference, orchestrated by the Jordanian Geologists Association (JGA), will commence under Royal Patronage on Tuesday in Amman. The event aims to solidify Jordan's status as a prominent center for earth and environmental sciences. According to Jordan News Agency, JGA President Khaled Shawabkeh emphasized that the conference reflects His Majesty's commitment to enhancing Jordan's role in these scientific fields. Shawabkeh highlighted the significance of advancing the mining sector and manufacturing industries as integral components of the National Mining Strategy aimed at bolstering the national economy. The conference will feature discussions on 120 research papers over the span of three days, uniting 220 researchers from various Arab and foreign nations, including Turkey, Syria, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Germany, and France. The gathering will also include participation from local and international official delegations. Key to pics on the agenda include the management of groundwater resources, strategies for natural disaster risk management, and the challenges associated with oil and gas in Jordan and the Arab world. The event will engage specialists and representatives from Gulf oil companies to delve into these issues. Further discussions will explore the environmental impacts of climate change and strategies for adaptation and mitigation. The conference will also assess seismic risk levels, underscore the importance of geological education in Jordan, and evaluate the role of geological reserves in fostering sustainable tourism.
