Abu dhabi: The upcoming 29th UN Climate Change Conference (COP29) is expected to be a crucial event for defining future contributions and raising international climate ambitions, according to Francesco La Camera, Director-General of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA). La Camera stressed the need for a substantial investment of US$31.5 trillion in renewable energy, grids, resilience measures, and energy efficiency by 2030. He called fo r an increase in average annual investments in renewable energy capacity to triple compared to 2023 levels. The IRENA Director-General urged for unity among nations at COP29 to boost climate finance, raise ambitions, and advance the global energy transition. He also confirmed IRENA's collaboration with Brazil, the host of COP30, to ensure continued progress toward achieving net-zero emissions and addressing climate change challenges.
