Paris Conference Secures $1 Billion in Aid for Lebanon Amid Regional Tensions

Paris: The Paris International Conference in Support of Lebanon has successfully raised $1 billion to aid the nation in its ongoing humanitarian and economic crises, with specific allocations made for the Lebanese Army. This financial support was announced during a gathering on Thursday aimed at addressing the urgent needs of Lebanon, while seeking to affirm the country's sovereignty amid escalating tensions in the region. According to Emirates News Agency, approximately $800 million of the total funds will be directed towards humanitarian aid and economic support, while an additional $200 million is earmarked for the Lebanese Army. French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot provided these details, highlighting the international community's commitment to Lebanon's stability. French President Emmanuel Macron pledged France's contribution of 100 million euros (approximately $108 million), underscoring the urgency of halting the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah as a step toward regional stability. Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati emphasized the necessity of a unified international approach to resolve the current conflict. He called for a diplomatic resolution in alignment with UN Security Council Resolution 1701, aiming to protect civilians and facilitate the return of displaced individuals to their homes. The contributions from the Paris conference are seen as a critical step towards supporting Lebanon's sovereignty and addressing its ongoing challenges.
