Paris: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Ayman Safadi has called on the international community to take swift action to aid Lebanon in managing the needs of more than 1.2 million people displaced by Israeli aggression since the onset of the current offensive on September 23. According to Jordan News Agency, Safadi's appeal came during his address at the International Conference in Support of Lebanon and its Sovereignty, inaugurated by French President Emmanuel Macron. Safadi highlighted the overwhelming challenge Lebanon faces in accommodating the displaced and stressed the necessity of urgent international support. Safadi emphasized that Lebanon's capacity to meet the needs of the displaced is exceeded, making external support crucial. Speaking to foreign ministers and representatives from 76 countries and international organizations, he underscored the need to address the root cause of the crisis, condemning the aggression on Lebanon and labeling it an illegitimate assault. He also urged global acknowledgment of what he termed as "brutal, expansionist, and racist" policies by the Israeli government, asserting that Israel should be held accountable for its actions against civilians. Safadi described these actions as "war crimes" and criticized the international community's immunity that empowers Israel's violations of international law. Safadi further claimed that Israel's actions are undermining peace prospects in the region, citing settlement expansions and violations at holy sites in Jerusalem. He affirmed Jordan's continuous support for Lebanon, both in humanitarian terms and in strengthening Lebanese national institutions. He concluded by urging the international community to end the aggression against Lebanon, enforce UN Security Council Resolution 1701, and provide resources to the Lebanese Armed Forces. Safadi stressed the importance of the conference in organizing support and warned against allowing Israel to remain above international law.
