Amman: The Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) has initiated the second phase of its Old Amman Neighborhoods Development Project in the Jabal Al-taj area, focusing on the removal of old buildings and other obstacles as part of ongoing work activities. According to Jordan News Agency, a statement from GAM on Thursday revealed that project manager Mohammad Abu Zeitoun announced the second phase will span three months, following the preparation of necessary technical reports by public safety committees. These reports have evaluated the old buildings to determine their unsuitability for housing or potential danger to residents, paving the way for their acquisition and the commencement of development work. Abu Zeitoun explained that Jabal Al-taj was selected as part of a broader program targeting several of Amman's mountainous areas, including Al-Jufa, Al-Qalaa, and Al-Nasr, along with other neighborhoods in the capital that face issues such as overcrowding and narrow streets. He added that the development work is projected to be fully completed within three years. The statement further outlined the project's goals, which include enhancing Amman's road network, organizing the old neighborhoods, making traffic improvements, and establishing public facilities. These facilities will primarily consist of parks, parking lots, and tourist gateways.
