SEOUL: Daily foreign exchange trading by banks in the Republic of Korea rose 4.6 percent in the third quarter, reaching a record high due to increased exports and stock investments, as reported by central bank data on Friday. According to Emirates News Agency, the daily FX turnover, including derivatives trading, averaged US$70.91 billion from July to September, up from $67.78 billion in the previous quarter. This figure marks the highest daily FX trading ever recorded in the country. The Bank of Korea attributed the surge in turnover to heightened transactions related to exports and imports, alongside vigorous stock trading activities. The daily average turnover in the spot FX market reached $26.29 billion in the third quarter, marking a 6.8 percent increase from the prior three months. FX derivatives turnover also saw an increase, rising 3.4 percent to $44.62 billion, the data indicated.
