WHERS Mini Conference Kicks Off at University of Jordan.

Amman: The second World Higher Education Ranking Summit (WHERS) commenced on Tuesday at the University of Jordan (UoJ), organized by the American University Rankings Foundation (UniRanks) in partnership with the Ministry of Education. The mini-conference aims to enhance students' potential for the labor market and boost the global competitiveness of Jordanian universities. According to Jordan News Agency, Ministry of Education Secretary-General Nawaf Ajarmeh highlighted the government's efforts to reform vocational education, transitioning it from a traditional model to an advanced technical system based on skills and competencies relevant to today's job market. He mentioned the recent launch of the BTEC program, which combines competency-based learning with specialized, practical qualifications to equip students with essential knowledge, skills, and workplace-aligned behaviors. This program is designed to facilitate students' entry into the labor market or their pursuit of further studies. UoJ President Na zir Obeidat emphasized the importance of continuous improvement and competitiveness to meet global ranking standards, underlining the university's commitment to progress amidst growing challenges. The university's strategy focuses on leveraging its capabilities to enhance its international standing. UniRanks President Robert Love discussed the foundation's mission to provide young people with the tools and expertise necessary for success in higher education and the job market. He encouraged a forward-thinking approach to educational improvement, stressing UniRanks' efforts to connect students, universities, and the global labor market. The conference, which gathers educators, university officials, and sector experts, is designed to introduce students to emerging tools, including AI-powered guidance systems that aid in educational and career decision-making. Presentations focus on modern methods for aligning students' skills and interests with suitable specializations and career paths, thereby increasing thei r employability and readiness for future challenges. The CareerOneStop-backed Academic Guidance and Career Guidance Initiative, sponsored by the US Department of Labor, is a key component of the conference. This initiative spans the Arab world, North Africa, and parts of Asia, aiming to prepare students to excel in the global job market. The event also features a student exhibition where local and international universities, companies, and training institutions offer students insights into academic and professional opportunities, ultimately supporting their future career success.
