Abu dhabi: Sheikha Shamma bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan has called for stronger collaboration and integrated sustainability frameworks to accelerate global climate action. Sheikha Shamma, who is the President and CEO of Frontier25 and The Climate Tribe, and Chairwoman of Alliances for Global Sustainability, RESET MENA, and Aurora50, emphasized these points during the University of Cambridge's Sustainability Leadership Alumni Insight Sharing Day.
According to Emirates News Agency, Sheikha Shamma highlighted the necessity of scaling existing climate solutions and embedding sustainability into institutional structures to achieve long-term impact. In a discussion with Lindsay Hooper, CEO of the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership, held at Robinson College, she stated, "We need to scale the solutions we know we have and remove barriers to innovation, but we also need a more consolidated ecosystem approach."
Sheikha Shamma addressed the UAE and wider region's response to climate challenges, underscoring the importance of integrating sustainability practices into organizations beyond compliance requirements. She noted the role individuals can play in advancing climate ambitions regardless of their professional backgrounds. "One doesn't have to work for a climate organization to be a climate leader," she said, encouraging the use of networks intentionally and emphasizing that climate issues are interdisciplinary and require collaboration.
Sheikha Shamma further mentioned that professionals who carry climate thinking and systems thinking with them will create the most enduring impact. Her academic background includes a Master of Studies in Sustainability Leadership and an MPhil in Modern Middle Eastern Studies from the University of Cambridge.
