Three Dead and 19 Missing Following Torrential Rains in Southwest China’s Chongqing

Chongqing: Three people lost their lives, and 17 others remain missing after torrential rains struck Yongchuan District in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality starting Saturday night, as reported by local authorities. The severe weather conditions have caused significant concern and prompted emergency response efforts in the region.

According to Emirates News Agency, two additional individuals are missing after the heavy rains affected Beibei District within the same municipality. The rainfall, which began on Saturday night and continued into the early hours of Sunday, has led to rescue operations in the affected areas as authorities strive to locate the missing individuals.

As of 2:30 pm (0630 GMT), the situation remains critical, with efforts to rescue and recover ongoing. In response to the disaster, China's state planner has allocated 20 million yuan ($2.94 million) from the central budget to aid in disaster recovery. This funding will be used for the restoration of infrastructure and public services in Chongqing, as stated by the National Development and Reform Commission.

The sudden extreme rainfall has posed a significant challenge to the local communities, highlighting the need for effective disaster management and recovery strategies in the region.
