Abu dhabi: Eng. Saeed Ghumran Al Remeithi, Group CEO of EMSTEEL, emphasized the importance of sustainability in fostering economic resilience during World Environment Day, aligning with UAE's strategic vision of embedding sustainability and innovation into economic and social spheres.
According to Emirates News Agency, Al Remeithi stated that EMSTEEL considers sustainability a crucial factor for innovation and competitiveness, vital for enhancing the national industrial sector's capacity to meet upcoming demands. The company's operations are largely powered by clean electricity, with 89 percent in the steel business and 29 percent in the cement business, reflecting its commitment to emission reduction and sustainable practices.
Al Remeithi highlighted that EMSTEEL has achieved a 40 percent reduction in carbon emissions intensity compared to the World Steel Association's global average. The company is working towards a goal of net-zero emissions by 2050, with interim targets to cut emissions by 40 percent in steel and 30 percent in cement by 2030 as part of its decarbonisation roadmap.
The launch of EMSTEEL's low-emission steel programme, TrueGreenS, and the attainment of ResponsibleSteelS certification underscore its dedication to sustainable innovation and international standards. Notably, EMSTEEL is the first in the Middle East and North Africa to earn this accreditation.
Al Remeithi also mentioned EMSTEEL's investments in carbon capture projects, artificial intelligence, digital twin technologies, and advanced industrial solutions. The development of products like ES600, which can reduce steel consumption in certain projects by up to 24 percent, supports the reduction of carbon emissions in the construction sector.
As the UAE continues to diversify its economy and pursue climate goals, EMSTEEL is committed to supporting these national priorities through industrial innovation, accelerated decarbonisation, and sustainable solutions, reinforcing the UAE's role as a leader in advanced industry and the green economy.
