ABU DHABI: H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs, chaired the meeting of the G20 Steering Committee, in the presence of a number of ministers and officials from the UAE.

The meeting discussed the priorities of the UAE’s participation in the Group’s activities and Summit in 2024.

During the meeting, which was held virtually, the UAE Top Diplomat stressed the importance of joint work between the committee members in the spirit of teamwork to enhance the UAE’s participation in the G20’s activities through cooperation and initiatives aimed at highlighting the UAE’s pivotal role on the regional and international scene.

He also underscored the importance of continuing and enhancing the achievements made through active participation in the various tracks, groups, and task forces of the G20.

Sheikh Abdullah reviewed the priorities of the UAE’s participation in the Group’s activities and summit, which will be held this year under the theme “Building a Just World and a Sustainable Pl
anet”.

He also discussed the priorities of the Brazilian presidency of the Group, which include developing the global governance system, combating poverty and hunger, and addressing climate challenges and energy transitions.

During the meeting, Sheikh Abdullah expressed the UAE’s appreciation for the invitation extended by the Republic of Brazil for the UAE to participate in the G20 summit. In this regard, he hailed the efforts of the ministers and various entities representing the UAE in the G20.

On the same note, the ministers and officials participating in the meeting briefed Sheikh Abdullah on the latest developments of the UAE’s participation in the G20 and discussed the preparations for participation in the Group’s upcoming key meetings, including the meetings of the Sherpa Track, the Finance Track, and the private sector working groups.

It is noteworthy that the UAE participated in the G20 activities and summit as a guest country in Indonesia in 2022, in India 2023, in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia 2
020 and in France in 2011.
