ABU DHABI, The Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre (ALC), a division of the Department of Culture and Tourism Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi), has announced its agenda for National Reading Month 2023. The initiative aims to support sustainable efforts by institutions and entities in the UAE, establishing a culture of reading in the community and launching new and outstanding reading initiatives. Dr. Ali bin Tamim, Chairman of the ALC, said, “Over the years, National Reading Month has intensified government efforts to promote reading in the UAE community and to help community members build a relationship with reading. It is a means to achieve success in various fields.” “The Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre has been committed to being an active partner in national efforts to educate the community and provide the necessary tools for the success of this mission,” he added. “With that in mind, every year, the Centre works tirelessly to develop an agenda full of activities catering to all groups throughout ‘Reading Month’, all in an effort to enhance their knowledge and promote reading as a concept and a habit engrained in their souls.” The ALC’s agenda for National Reading Month 2023 includes a range of lectures, workshops, and interactive activities for adults and children. The Creative Writing Programme is designed to help authors hone their creative writing skills in the Arabic language. Additionally, the Kalima Reading Club is hosting a series of events, sessions, and reading programmes to discuss selected books, and Qasr Al Watan Library will be open for visits. The ALC’s activities cater to every segment of the public throughout Reading Month, offering a variety of interactive activities suitable for all age groups. The events will be held at Umm Al Emarat Park and the Al Qana development in Abu Dhabi over two weekends. Activities include a children’s reading corner, educational workshops, an Arabic calligraphy workshop, and a music corner. The agenda also includes musical performances and poetry evenings, in parallel with World Poetry Day, as well as the ‘Khazanat Al Kutub’ event, where books on literature, arts, and children’s and young adult stories will be sold at promotional prices. The Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre will also celebrate all international occasions approved by the United Nations that are set to be observed during Reading Month. This includes a discussion seminar titled ‘Women Literary Pioneers’ on International Women’s Day, in addition to a poetry evening hosting poets and writers to mark World Poetry Day.
