Clashes have erupted outside the Grand Serail between activists, most of whom are retired servicemen who rallied to protest against the stifling financial conditions, and the riot police, our correspondent reported on Wednesday. The broil escalated when protesters attempted to remove the barbed wire leading to the Grand Serail, prompting the security forces to fire tear gas. The army rushed to the scene to disperse the crowds and restore calm.
