AL-MAKARY DISCUSSES ELECTION COVERAGE WITH MEDIA FIGURES, SAYS ADHERES TO MEDIA FREEDOM TO FULLEST EXTENT

Information Minister, Ziad Al-Makary, on Monday held an extensive meeting at his ministerial office to discuss media coverage during the upcoming parliamentary elections in the presence of senior media officials and dignitaries.

“We hold this dialogue session today to discuss the role of media, specifically media coverage en route to the electoral deadline; our main focus is to protect the media and professional journalists from any dictates,” Al-Makary said.

“I adhere to media freedom to the fullest extent, but of course I’m referring to responsible freedom,” the Information Minister added.

Moreover, Al-Makary pointed out that he was working on a new media law.

“I’m working hard to get it approved in its amended version before parliamentary elections,” he addedn.

“This is a step forward in the path of strengthening the role of media in Lebanon and protecting public liberties. The Ministry of Information endeavors to protect media professionals, not to suppress them,” he concluded.
