Doha: Nour Al Rawabdeh, a key striker for the Jordanian national football team, has been sidelined for the remainder of the 2023 Asian Cup in Qatar due to a severe injury.

The team’s media liaison, speaking to the Jordanian Sports Media Federation in Doha, revealed that Al-Rawabdeh has sustained a fracture in his sixth rib. Medical scans have confirmed this injury, benching him for an estimated 3 to 4 weeks and ruling him out of the ongoing Asian Cup.

Despite this setback, the squad remains focused and is rigorously preparing for their upcoming clash with Bahrain. This crucial match is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. next Thursday at the Khalifa International Stadium in Doha, marking the third round of the Group Five contests in the tournament.

The team, under the guidance of coach Hussein Amouta, has been fine-tuning its strategies and conditioning, with a training session held on Monday afternoon at Al-Oqla Stadium in Doha.

The national team, currently leading the pack in Group Five with 4 points, kicked off th
e tournament with a commanding 4-0 victory over Malaysia, followed by a 2-2 draw against Korea.

They stand at the top of their group, edging out Korea on goal difference, with Bahrain trailing with 3 points and Malaysia yet to get off the mark.
