Baghdad, MP for the State of Law Coalition, Muhammad Saadoun Al-Saihoud, said that the current election law did not produce a real parliament, but rather works as if it were a municipal council.

Al-Saihoud said in a press statement today that: The election law, which relies on multiple constituencies, does not produce a real parliament, but rather works as if it were a municipal council and works to procrastinate the rights of the components of the Iraqi people and only serves the interests of blocks at the expense of other blocks. The best evidence for that is that the current parliament could not Legislating a single law for Iraqis.

He added that: Iraq and its people need a real parliament that exercises its legislative and oversight role. When a law is enacted, it must be for all Iraqis and not for a specific segment, indicating that all political blocs and components of Iraqi society agree on the necessity of amending the current election law and adopting a single constituency instead of multiple constituencies according to the St. Lego, as well as changing the shape and characters of the Electoral Commission.
