Baghdad, The head of the Center for Political Thinking, Ihsan Al-Shammari, confirmed that the adoption of the Saint-Lego law in the elections is a dangerous democratic retreat and the beginning of a very deep political crisis.
He told the National Iraqi News Agency / NINA /: Democracy is a cumulative state that necessitates the authorities and the political class to develop its mechanisms, and therefore the election law, which proceeds towards proportional representation, is no longer acceptable for political participation.
Al-Shammari added: The proportional representation on the basis of Saint-Lego 1.9 or 1.7 in the end undermines the political participation of new parties and independents and puts the decision in the hands of leaders of the open and closed list.
This is considered a serious setback in the process of democratic development and elections, and compounded the people’s reluctance to hold elections, because returning to old laws would push unqualified personalities and the rise of others accused of corruption, and in case it is approved, it will be a beginning of a very deep political crisis.
