Baghdad The Prime Minister, Muhammad Shia’a Al-Sudani, received today, Tuesday, German Foreign Minister Analina Birbock and her accompanying delegation.

During the meeting, they discussed ways to consolidate bilateral relations and partnership in various fields, for the benefit of the Iraqi and German peoples.

The Prime Minister stressed, according to a statement by his office, during the meeting, the importance of continuing bilateral communication and cooperation, exchanging information on the security side, Iraq’s openness to all forms of partnerships and investment opportunities, and his welcome for the contribution of German companies in building infrastructure in Iraq.

For her part, the German Minister conveyed the greetings of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to the Prime Minister, stressing the German government’s desire to resume the work of the Iraqi-German joint committee again.

She also affirmed Germany’s support for the efforts of the Iraqi government in its endeavor to implement administrative and economic reforms, and to achieve good governance.

At the end of the meeting, and under the auspices of the Prime Minister, a signing ceremony took place with the German energy company Siemens for the first group of project contracts included in the memorandum of cooperation. It includes comprehensive rehabilitation and service works for (Kirkuk, Al-Rasheed, and Al-Sadr gas stations) for the production of electric power.

These contracts cover the service of the stations for a period of five years, with a production capacity of up to 1400 MW, which helps to sustain work in them and stabilize the production and distribution of energy.

The signing of the three contracts comes as a confirmation of the Ministry of Electricity’s obligations under the memorandum of understanding signed with the German company Siemens in Berlin, under the auspices of the Prime Minister last January. With these three contracts, the Iraqi government was able to obtain a financial reduction of up to 30%.
