Amman: The Greater Amman Municipality declared a “medium” state of emergency starting Monday evening ahead of severe weather the Kingdom is expecting tomorrow.

Municipality spokesman Nasser Rahmaneh said emergency rooms and response teams were on call to deal with any accidents, urging the public to call for assistance when needed.

It also called for extra precautions and to stay clear of low-lying areas to avoid flashfloods, and not to connect water gutters to sewage manholes or dump waste that block rainwater drains.

It also advised shopowners whose stores are below street levels to take caution when storing merchandize in warehouses or basements, and called on workers at construction sites to look out for material that could be swept by floodwater into drainage lines.
