Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu announced today that his country is “doing its best to extend the grain deal,” according to “Novosti” news agency.
“We are working hard to implement the grain deal without any barriers and to extend it, and I discussed this yesterday with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres,” Cavusoglu said during a speech at the Fifth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries in Qatar.
He stated that hunger has not yet been eradicated in the world, noting at the same time that “the grain deal helped reduce food prices,” as the deal expires on March 18 of this month.
This deal, signed by Russia, Turkey, Ukraine and the United Nations on July 22, 2022, provides for the transfer of Ukrainian grain, foodstuffs and fertilizers from 3 Ukrainian ports, including Odessa, across the Black Sea, which requires the cancellation of sanctions imposed on the export of Russian food and fertilizers.
Moscow indicated more than once that “the Russian part of this agreement is not being implemented, despite the promises of the United Nations to cancel all restrictions imposed in this regard.
