Arab climate forum’s role ‘crucial’ in confronting climate change impact: Environment min.

Environment Minister Yasmine Fouad underlined the importance of the Arab climate forum in supporting relentless efforts exerted by the Arab countries in confronting the adverse impacts of climate change.

The Arab world is facing an unprecedented pace of negative impact of climate change, added the minister while participating Sunday in the Council of Arab Ministers Responsible for the Environment (CAMRE).

The CAMRE launched Sunday the Arab climate forum in Egypt in its first edition in cooperation between the Environment Ministry, the Arab Gulf Programme for Development (AGFUND), the Arab League, the Arab Network for NGOs, and the Arab Council for Childhood and Development (ACCD).

The two-day forum is attended by a host of officials, representatives of UN organizations along with a host of experts, scientists and researchers.

Delivering her speech, the minister said that she is delighted over Egypt’s hosting of the first edition of the forum.

The minister extended thanks to the distinguished organization of this forum.

The minister emphasized the need to seek innovative solutions to environment-related issues, stressing that giving attention to the climate change issue is no longer a luxury but has become an inarguable necessity.

The Arab countries are one of the most vulnerable regions in the world to the impact of climate change and already the effects are being seen, added the minister.

Scientific reports, issued in 2021 and the beginning of 2022, of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change said that it is high time to hold global temperature rise to a safer limit of 1.5 degrees, noted the minister.

Although their quota of carbon dioxide emissions does not exceed 5% of global production, yet Arab countries are more affected by the phenomena of climate change than others, the minister went on to say.
