CAIRO: The Arab League began today its extraordinary session, presided over by Morocco in its capacity as the head of the 160th session of the Arab League. This session is being convened at the request of the State of Palestine and in coordination with Egypt and Jordan.

The primary objective of the meeting is to formulate a unified Arab stance in response to the recent measures issued by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) against Israel. The ICJ ruled on provisional measures that Israel must implement and adhere to based on a case brought forth by the Republic of South Africa.

The case accuses Israel of failing to fulfill its obligations under the 1948 Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide.

The Palestinian delegation to the meeting is led by the Ambassador of the State of Palestine to the Arab League, Muhannad Al-Aklok, along with senior advisors Tamer El Tayeb, Rizk Al-Zaainin, Jumana Al-Ghoul, and Attaché Maher Masoud.

The extraordinary meeting of the permanent repre
sentatives of member states is attended by the Assistant Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ambassador Hossam Zaki, and the Assistant Secretary-General for Palestinian Affairs and the Occupied Arab Territories in the League, Saeed Abu Ali.

The meeting aims to take comprehensive measures to prevent prohibited acts under the Genocide Convention, ensure the immediate provision of urgent humanitarian needs for the Gaza Strip, and hold Israel accountable for incitement to genocide in Gaza. Additionally, measures are to be taken to prevent the destruction of evidence related to the commission of genocide.
