ASE Secures Position on AFCM Board of Directors

AMMAN: The Amman Stock Exchange (ASE) has been successfully re-elected to the Board of Directors of the Arab Federation of Capital Markets (AFCM) during the federation's annual general assembly meeting. The meeting saw the participation of leaders from member exchanges and depositories, reinforcing the ASE's influential role within the regional financial community. According to Jordan News Agency, the newly constituted AFCM Board of Directors includes representatives from the ASE, Tadawul in Saudi Arabia, Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange (ADX), and stock exchanges from Palestine, Egypt, and Tunisia, along with Bahrain Bourse and the Securities Depository Center of Saudi Arabia. This composition reflects a diverse geographic representation within the Arab financial markets. Mazen Wathaifi, Chief Executive Officer of ASE, commented on the significance of the re-election, highlighting it as an acknowledgment of Jordan's contributions and ASE's active involvement in the AFCM. "The re-election reflects the apprecia tion of the AFCM's members for Jordan and its national institutions, the ASE prominent role in the AFCM during the past years, and its active participation in its work and committees," Wathaifi stated. He further emphasized that the election underscores the progress of Jordan's national capital market, both legislatively and technically, which aligns with a strategic agenda to enhance the market and investment climate according to international benchmarks. The AFCM, established in 1978, serves as a guiding entity for Arab stock exchanges. Its membership encompasses Arab stock exchanges, settlement and clearing organizations, alongside various financial institutions and brokerage firms throughout the Arab region.
