At least 80 people were killed, including children, when a boat carrying migrants slammed into rocks in Italy’s southern Calabria region, the coastguard said on Sunday.
The vessel had departed from Turkiye with more than 100 international migrants onboard, crashing under unstable weather conditions near an eastern Calabria resort, according to authorities.
Italy is a common transit site for many migrants fleeing war and unbearable living conditions, all of whom seek entry to wealthy European nations for greener pastures.
