Amman: Head of the Audit Bureau (AB), Radi Hamadin, engaged in a virtual meeting with the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI) on Sunday.

During the meeting, Hamadin delivered an insightful overview of the Bureau, shedding light on its relationship with entities subject to oversight, the spectrum of audits it conducts, and the reports it generates.

Emphasizing its role as the oversight arm of the parliament, Hamadin underlined the constitutional significance of the AB, as underscored by Article 119 and other constitutional provisions. He highlighted the mandate to submit an annual report to the parliament at the onset of each regular session, as well as the immunity afforded to the head of the Bureau.

Hamadin emphasized the imperative of collaboration with government, regulatory, and law enforcement authorities in rectifying financial irregularities and addressing violations. Stressing that violations persist until corrected legally, he highlighted the Bureau’s commitm
ent to citizens’ complaints, a factor influencing the issuance of 31 clarifications in the Bureau’s 2022 report.

Hamadin underscored close cooperation with the government in crafting oversight reports conducive to the reform process.

The meeting delved into potential funding opportunities for projects geared toward enhancing the Bureau’s capabilities. Collaboration with local institutions and international organizations was explored, particularly in specialized areas such as forensic auditing, accounting, and scrutinizing fraud in digital currency transactions and digital crimes.

In responding to participants’ inquiries, Hamadin addressed the Bureau’s relationship with international organizations and other oversight bodies. He elucidated on the collaboration with judicial and official authorities concerning issues like money laundering, taxation, and the recovery of unlawfully spent funds.

The UNICRI, headquartered in Turin, Italy, emerged as one of the six independent United Nations research and training
institutes. Focused on criminal justice and crime prevention, it aids UN member states in formulating and implementing enhanced policies in these areas. The institute provides specialized technical assistance globally, aiding countries in refining mechanisms for tracking, seizing, and confiscating assets linked to serious crimes.
