Bahrain, Mauritania condemn Israeli minister’s storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque, stress the status quo in Jerusalem

The Kingdom of Bahrain and Mauritania today strongly condemned the storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque, the third holiest site in Islam located in the Old City of occupied Jerusalem, by an Israel cabinet minister, stressing preservation of the status quo in the holy city.

Fascist Israeli Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben Gvir, stormed Al-Aqsa Mosque yesterday causing widespread local, Arab and international condemnation.

‘The Kingdom of Bahrain strongly condemns and denounces the Israeli Minister of National Security and a group of extremists storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque, who were under the protection of the Israeli police, considering it a serious violation of international law and a provocation to Muslims,’ said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement.

It affirmed ‘the unequivocal position of the Kingdom of Bahrain calling for respect for the role of the brotherly Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in caring for sanctities and endowments in accordance with international law and the existing historical situation.’

The Ministry further stated ‘the need to stop repeated provocative practices and racist statements that threaten to increase tension and hatred and undermine international efforts to advance the just and comprehensive peace process, and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with the two-state solution, the principles of international law and the Arab Peace Initiative.’

Mauritania’s Foreign Ministry also denounced in a separate statement Ben Gvir’s storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque, describing it as a provocative and blatant violation of all international conventions.

It reiterated Mauritania’s ‘absolute rejection of any measures aimed at changing the legal and historical status of the holy places,’ calling on the international community ‘to assume its full responsibilities to protect the Palestinian people and their property and to put an end to the repeated Israeli violations of the holy places.’
